Transportation

By Train

With the privatisation of the Railways and sadly the serious incidents such as Paddington, Ladbrooke Grove, and Potters Bar, the Railway Companies are very careful to what is actually carried with passengers, hence it has become increasingly difficult to know which Railway Companies will allow the Peacelight to be carried on-board its trains. Bearing this in mind, it is hoped that all couriers of the light will respect the wishes of the Train Operating Companies and only use the companies that have given the British Rail Scout Fellowship approval to carry the light. I hope to update this page a soon as this information becomes available, however if in doubt ask at the appropriate company office.

When using the train to carry the light, please note the following:

1) Where possible Night light Lanterns and Paraffin lamps should be contained in a canister following the pattern promoted by the Peacelight Organisers

2) Those wishing to travel should report to on-train staff before boarding and obey their instructions.

3) In the absence of a conductor/guard you should minimise the risk of fire and travel within reach of a fire extinguisher.

4) Refueling of lanterns or changing of nightlights should not be carried out whilst on the train.
